It is not by chance that I have chosen to start out the CancunOpinion.com website, by featuring the Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres hotel.
We recently stayed at this resort (June 2023), and personally I was really impressed. Let me start out by saying that the “grand” in their name, is quite accurate.The hotel is quite big, the beach is expansive and OMG, amazingly beautiful and the food is magnifique!
We booked two junior suites for a ladies-weekend-birthday-celebration, and were upgraded to two connecting family suites. Each featured a private pool (about 20 feet long), sparkling clean, with a great view of the resort’s main pool and bar area. The suites had two queen size beds and a kind size sofa-bed in the living room. There were six to our group so each got its own bed, something you really appreciate when you’re exhausted from a long day in the sun, swimming and playing.
The rooms were exquisitely clean, and passed our detailed personal inspection, something we do in every hotel we stay at. The mattresses were quite comfy (the queen size beds obviously more so than the sofa-bed), and brand new, and the bathrooms were inmaculate. The toilet area was mercifully separated from the shower and sink areas, and the rooms had two separate sitting areas, one indoors, the other area by the private pool.
The restaurants: there are three main restaurants and a couple of cafés, aside from a couple of bars. Let me start by saying that the food was really good, actually GREAT, at all the restaurants including the buffet. But the lines in the morning, to have breakfast at the buffet were daunting. The cafés were acceptable at best with their pastries being decent but the coffees were terrible. I had a cappuccino and a frappuccino and both had to go in the trash.
The restaurants we had dinner at every night, were delicious. The food was good and plentiful, and the service was the best we’ve had lately. Our servers were on top of our orders, refilling our drinks, offering us their specialties and making for a great meal, every time. Speaking of drinks: they were good, and we never had to chase down a single waiter to get our glasses filled. The hotel must have a cups-full kind of policy, because every hotel employee that walked by us at the pool, at the lobby, at the restaurants, always offered us something to drink.
All in all, our opinion is that the Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres in Cancun is a great choice, and we give it an enthusiastic 5 star rating. We’d definitely be happy to celebrate our next get-together at this hotel.
