The Presidente (its full name is Intercontinental Presidente Hotel) is a popular beachfront property located in the hotel zone of Cancun, Mexico. It is one of the landmarks of the area, with locals referring to it in every-day conversations (something like “that restaurant is about two blocks from the Presidente” or “oh, that was built after the Presidente”). It is not one of the new massive Cancun resorts, though. It is a 30 year old hotel, the way they were made back then: as hotels, not full cities by the beach.
That said, let’s talk about what this Cancun hotel has to offer: the Presidente Hotel is located right on the Caribbean sea, right next to the Beachscape Kin Ha Villas hotel, sharing the same magnificent white sand and turquoise waters beach. It is much more luxurious than its neighbor, with elegantly decorated rooms, marble floors, several restaurants that can sit over one thousand guests, and a refined air in general that will make you feel that you are in Paris or Rome, yet with the beach right at your feet.
It boasts a large swimming pool, a kids area, a fitness center with relatively new equipment, and a spa where guests can relax and unwind. Additionally, the hotel offers various activities and entertainment options, such as live music and water sports from 8AM until 5PM. Several restaurants: a buffet, a seafood restaurant and a couple of poolside bars are open all day long and into the wee hours of the night.
With 300 rooms, most of them overlooking the beach, the Presidente is a good choice for Cancun visitors. The rooms are clean, the air conditioner works fairly well, the bathrooms are spacious and clean and the decor is decent. It is not a new hotel, mind you, so here and there you will notice signs of its age. And that, exactly, is my main complaint about this hotel. Let me put it this way, with so many brand new resorts in Cancun, offering its rooms and a barage of ammenities for a decent price, it makes no sense that the Presidente Hotel is so overpriced, yet you can see little signs of decay here and there.
Overall, the President hotel is a great choice for travelers looking for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation in Cancun and if it weren’t for its high prices and noticeable age, I would rate it higher, but with things the way they are, I give the Presidente Hotel in Cancun, FOUR STAR RATING.
