Bandoneon Restaurant in Cancun is one of the city’s staple eateries. Located in the heart of town, on Bonampak Avenue and next door to the popular Las Americas shopping mall, this Argentinian steak restaurant has been around for over 20 years, maintaining the same amazing quality that characterized it since its very beginnings.
I attended a birthday celebration at Bandoneon restaurant last week. After not eating there for over three years, I was pleasantly surprised to see that their food is still as good as it was back in the day when I first moved to Cancun (about 16 years ago), and exactly the same as it was when my sister came to visit me in Cancun and I took her for dinner to Bandoneon. The service is impeccable, the food is amazing… wait, let me say that again: AMAZING. And the prices are just right.
Bandoneon is not a cheap restaurant. It’s priced according to its food, and I’d even dare say that for what they offer, it is inexpensive. Mainly if you compare it to similar restaurants in the Hotel Zone of Cancun, where you pay three times the price, and get about half the amount of food.
On to my most recent experience at Bandoneon: Despite it being mainly a steak restaurant, I ordered the Norwegian salmon, and OMG! It was like butter! Hands down, the best salmon I have had in my life (I am not exaggerating! I came home afterwards and told my family how impressed I was with the salmon, so yes, something to write home about). The price? $560 Mexican pesos, about $29 dollars. My friends all had steak, and the birthday girl had the “bife de chorizo”, which is an oversized (about two pounder) ribeye steak, accompanied by French fries. As good friends should, we all tried each other food, and there was not a single person who said anything negative about the food. Everything was excellent! (Even the salad that our I-am-always-on-a-diet girlfriend ordered).
So, to make this review of Bandoneon restaurant short and concise, let me summarize: Excellent Steaks, Excellent Salmon, Excellent Salads, Marvellous Service, Decent Prices, and Great Location in the center of Cancun.
For all that and for having maintained their great quality throughout the years, I rate Bandoneon Restaurant in Cancun, a perfect FIVE STARS!
