Cao Restaurant in Cancun, located in the Puerto Cancun mall.
A Stunning Location and Ambiance
If you’re ever in Cancun and looking for an incredible dining experience, check out CAO Restaurant in Cancun. It’s located in Marina Puerto Cancun, setting the stage for a great evening with beautiful waterfront views. I went in with high expectations, and they were not just met but completely exceeded. You may also here the area called Puerto Cancun Mall.
From the moment you walk in, you can feel the upscale yet welcoming vibe. The decor is modern with a touch of elegance. The lighting is just right—not too bright, not too dim, perfect for a relaxed dining atmosphere.
Exceptional Service That Stands Out
The staff at CAO is phenomenal. From the hostess to the servers, everyone is attentive without being overbearing. You know how some fancy restaurants feel a little stiff? Not here.
They are super friendly, ready with recommendations, and genuinely seem happy to be working there. They check in just the right amount—not too much to be annoying but enough to make sure you have everything you need. It’s clear that customer satisfaction is a priority.
A Food Lover’s Paradise
Oh man, the food. If you love Mexican cuisine with a modern twist, this place will blow your mind. I started with their guacamole, which came with homemade chips that were perfectly crispy. The best part? They mix in little touches that make it stand out, like fresh pomegranate seeds and just the right amount of lime.
For the main course, I went with the grilled octopus. It was one of the best I’ve ever had—perfectly tender, full of smoky flavor, and served with roasted veggies. My friend ordered the grilled salmon with cheese sauce. It was ridiculously good. The salmon was flaky and flavorful, and the cheese sauce added a rich, creamy touch.
Tacos, Desserts, and Cocktails to Die For
We also tried their ribeye tacos, which were an absolute must. The meat was juicy, seasoned perfectly, and served on fresh tortillas that tasted homemade. Each bite was bursting with flavor. If you’re a meat lover, this is the one to get.
Of course, we couldn’t leave without dessert. We went for the churros, and they were some of the best I’ve ever had. Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and served with warm chocolate and caramel sauces for dipping. I could’ve eaten an entire second plate.
Their mixologists know what they’re doing when it comes to cocktails. I had a mezcal-based drink that was smoky, slightly sweet, and just strong enough to make you feel a little fancy. My friend ordered a classic margarita, which was fresh, tangy, and perfectly balanced. If you love cocktails, their drink menu will impress you.
A Must-Visit Dining Experience

Whether you’re there for a romantic dinner, a celebration, or just a night out with friends, it’s the perfect setting. If you’re on the fence about going, let this be your sign—just do it. You won’t regret it. CAO Modern Mexican Kitchen is easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Cancun, and I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in town.
The Opinion:
While this place is amazing in most ways I do have to report that we have had some dishes that we did not like. Some a bit tasteless and some that were just not worth the price we paid.
Speaking of price. Get ready for a hefty bill. For two we paid just over 5000 pesos or 250$ Us. Ouch!
